The Barn Yard Is Keeping It Weird.

Yes, that is in fact a chicken riding a goat. Sometimes, that chicken even tries to produce future offspring with that goat. Barn yards can be weird places. Sometimes even very weird. I am not sure why they insist on being deeply weird some days… But they do. I think they forget sometimes we are in Massachusetts, not Oregon.

When the livestock get strange, being a farmer can be fun and very interesting and even highly amusing. Living on a farm, you live with a lot of weirdos and everyone brings their own unique variety of weird. Think of it as a family of like twenty five very weird people. Now imagine, 24 can’t even explain their weird. Now, you are managing a small farm.

Moments of barn yard weird, right now for me anyway, are a bit of a respite. There hasn’t been much to laugh or smile about in a while. Covid ended and everyone came back a bit…. changed in the brain… Many have depression, and feel disconnected. People wonder that I am neither. The weird around here would be the reason why. I socialize with the weirdos outside in the snow. I see things that make me laugh and smile. Being honest, I dunno what I would do without the weird moments of chickens riding goats, or the dog doing something dumb. Or one of the goats doing something nutty. Without this, all I would have to do is bake, scrub stuff in the kitchen, and watch a bloviated orange destroy everything on tv. The weird around, it keeps me sane. It keeps me from bottoming out when horrors in Minneapolis, seem to be everywhere I look on my computer screen. The weird, is how I keep my perspective. It isn’t just me either that seems to thrive on the weird around here. Dr. Farmer Moomin, actually took this photo. He too, seems to find meaning in the daily weirding of the furry and feathered weirdos of the barn yard.

I wonder if that chicken went on a trail ride…. Either way, it should probably be wearing a helmet…..

I have no idea where others turn to stay sane in a world that gets more and more defective by the day….. But moments like this, are where I turn. I am so grateful Dr. Farmer Moomin, caught it on camera.

I hope you are taking a moment to breathe and enjoy life and the weird around you.
If we don’t weird will be the least of our problem.
We will make ourselves crazy.
A break, or just a moment of joy is ok to have.
A moment of weird that amuses you is also ok to have.
For me on this farm moments like these are everything.
